Editor’s Day 2013
The SCAD sequential art department will host leading comic book publishers and editors at its annual Editors’ Day Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11, 2013 at SCAD-Savannah. Editors’ Day is a two-day event where editors and publishers will review SCAD sequential art students’ portfolio in Norris Hall with panel discussions at the SCAD Museum of Art Theater on Friday from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Visiting editors and publishers include: Traci Todd, Senior Editor for Children’s Publishing, Viz Media; Shannon Watters, Senior Editor, Boom! Studios; Chris Staros, Publisher, Top Shelf Productions; Rebecca Taylor, Editor, Archaia Entertainment; Jill Beaton, Assistant Editor & Talent Search Coordinator, Oni Press; Natalie Foreman, Assistant Editor, McFarland Publishing; Terry Nantier, Editor, NBM Publishing; and Joel Enos, Senior Editor, Shonen Jump Magazine, Viz Media
Editors’ Day is open to all students at any SCAD campuses (including eLearning), and alumni. Students must apply for portfolio reviews, which will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are available in an interactive PDF on SEQALab.com, and students must submit samples from their portfolio. Alumni, Atlanta campus and eLearning students can email applications with portfolio samples to afisher@scad.edu. Although graduating students and alumni have priority, all student levels are welcome, and every effort will be made to assign students to an editor or publisher, based on availability.
SCAD Editors’ Day has been a proud part of the history of the sequential art department for many years. The event represents one of the few major academic acknowledgements of comic art and sequential art storytelling in the nation. The Editors’ Day permits guests to discuss sequential art concerns from many differing points of view and provides students with an opportunity to network and learn from a variety of top industry professionals.

The Sequential Art Department is pleased to announce the Digital Comics Forum Friday, April 26 – Saturday, April 27, 2013. Comics and graphic novels are moving away from print and into digital format. The Digital Comics Forum event will include panel discussions, workshops and presentation of digital comics. Three SCAD alumni will be discussing information about industry changes to digital media, and hosting workshops. Join us for this insightful event looking at the future of digital publishing and how to position yourself for a career in digital comics. This event is open to all of the SCAD Community.

Kate Kasenow
M.F.A. Sequential Art) and she now lives in New York City. She is a digital editor at ComiXology and also works on freelance projects such as a graphic novel for Oni Press.

Chaz Moneypenny
2011 (MFA Dramatic Writing) and now works at Connected Experiences, Walt Disney Imagineering. He also writes freelance for Pow Entertainment and Hermes Press. Before attending SCAD, he was a script assistant and SAG actor for various major motion pictures.
Geoff Shaw
Geoff graduated from SCAD in 2011 (M.F.A. Sequential Art) and now works at Connected Experiences, Walt Disney Imagineering. He has work on Batman, 80-Page Giant, Fearless, (DC Comics), Pacific Rim: Tales From Year Zero (Legendary Comics, and as an illustrator for Colors Magazine. He is currently working with Dark Horse Comics on a new book(soon to be announced), followed by Legendary Entertainment’s Majestic Files by J. Michael Straczynski, which will feature art by Geoff Shaw and Matt Banning.

Join comiXology Digital Editor Kate as she shows you the ins and outs of creating comics using Guided View technology and discusses comiXology’s goals for these tools.

We all know the process of creating comics for print, but what about for mobile devices like smart phones and tablets? Join Chaz and Geoff as they detail every step of the production line–from initial concept all the way to distribution through Google Play and the Apple Store–and teach you how to translate your print comic skills for this emerging medium. They’ll also discuss the demands placed on artists working for large media companies, how they strive to maintain the integrity of comics in this new format, and the lessons they’ve learned the hard way (so you won’t have to).
