The Sequential Art Department is pleased to announce the Digital Comics Forum Friday, April 26 – Saturday, April 27, 2013. Comics and graphic novels are moving away from print and into digital format. The Digital Comics Forum event will include panel discussions, workshops and presentation of digital comics. Three SCAD alumni will be discussing information about industry changes to digital media, and hosting workshops. Join us for this insightful event looking at the future of digital publishing and how to position yourself for a career in digital comics. This event is open to all of the SCAD Community.

Kate Kasenow
M.F.A. Sequential Art) and she now lives in New York City. She is a digital editor at ComiXology and also works on freelance projects such as a graphic novel for Oni Press.

Chaz Moneypenny
2011 (MFA Dramatic Writing) and now works at Connected Experiences, Walt Disney Imagineering. He also writes freelance for Pow Entertainment and Hermes Press. Before attending SCAD, he was a script assistant and SAG actor for various major motion pictures.
Geoff Shaw
Geoff graduated from SCAD in 2011 (M.F.A. Sequential Art) and now works at Connected Experiences, Walt Disney Imagineering. He has work on Batman, 80-Page Giant, Fearless, (DC Comics), Pacific Rim: Tales From Year Zero (Legendary Comics, and as an illustrator for Colors Magazine. He is currently working with Dark Horse Comics on a new book(soon to be announced), followed by Legendary Entertainment’s Majestic Files by J. Michael Straczynski, which will feature art by Geoff Shaw and Matt Banning.

From early experiments like Box 13, Valentine, and Power Play to more recent efforts like Marvel’s Infinite Comics and Atomic Robo’s Two-Fisted Tales, comiXology’s Guided View has ushered in a new era in comic book creation. Join comiXology Digital Editor Kate as she shows you the ins and outs of creating comics using Guided View technology and discusses comiXology’s goals for these tools.
Workshops 2: Producing Motion Comics for Mobile Devices

We all know the process of creating comics for print, but what about for mobile devices like smart phones and tablets? Join Chaz and Geoff as they detail every step of the production line–from initial concept all the way to distribution through Google Play and the Apple Store–and teach you how to translate your print comic skills for this emerging medium. They’ll also discuss the demands placed on artists working for large media companies, how they strive to maintain the integrity of comics in this new format, and the lessons they’ve learned the hard way (so you won’t have to).

Arrive 10-15 minutes early for your session. If you are not in line by 10 minutes prior to the session, you are late, and YOU MAY NOT ENTER the room — no exceptions.
Workshop Etiquette
Remember you are there to participate, refrain from doing schoolwork while in a workshop, texting or other unprofessional behavior. In the event of inappropriate behavior you will be asked to leave.
